In this day and age each of the above words may mean something different to each of us and certainly have different meanings from .
CCTV - is perhaps the most straight forward and is an acronym for Closed Circuit Television but in practice modern systems have little to do with a television - except they may utilise a TV screen to display whatever is being monitored. Systems monitoring and displaying the results are increasingly linked to computers using digital systems and merely using a screen or monitor to deliver the results. The screen no longer needs to be a television (a conventional analogue device) capable of interpreting the television signals - either directly or from a video recorder CCTV does however convey ‘security and surveillance’ to most people just as the name ‘Hoover’ has become a household name for a vacuum cleaner .
Security - again has many meaning to many people. We can talk about home security , business or office security or personal; security. Beyond these topics there is a whole industry surrounding computer security - secure PC’s, secure servers, Internet security and much more.
Surveillance - meaning - literally - in French "watching over". Non the less there no so many ways of we maybe observed - perhaps by someone watching our every move, or our movements recorded on CCTV, our ’phone calls are so frequently recorded and our voice communication is being monitored. Increasingly our electronic transactions are now monitored at every stage.
